2010 Vacation Day 11 - The best fish and chips ever...

Headed over to Grenwich this morning, a part of the national park that contains the dunes. It is about a 45 minute drive from Stanhope. Stopped at St. Peters Bay to check out the shops and have an ice cream. Grenwich has a number of trails, and we wanted to walk to the dunes.
As Dale preferred the beach walk, we dropped her off there then headed back to the other parking lot to walk to the dunes. Not that long a walk, probably about 4klm both ways. It is an easy walk, with gravel paths, a section through some hardwoods, then a very neat walk to the dunes on a floating boardwalk across a large marshland. Up over the dunes they had laid a plastic mesh on top of the sand to help the walking, a great idea.

The beach was amazing. Other than the foliage, it was very tropical feeling, with the beach going on forever. The water was very warm, as it was quite shallow for the longest way out. Did a bit of wading, Steve went in for a full swim, then headed back. All told, it was about a 2 1/2 hour excursion. I was wondering how fried Dale would be once we got to the main beach. Quite the beach house complex there... washrooms, a nifty 4 person outdoor shower to wash the salt water off oneself, as well as a big kitchen/dining area which would be perfect for larger gatherings. The beach was quite nice as well, but did not have the secluded feel the other one had. Went for a long swim/float in the water. It was excellent.

Got back to Stanhope and went straight to get a bite to eat. Tonight we are trying Richards Eatery, which came highly recommended for their fish and chips. Even though we we there around 5:30, it was already quite busy. Grabbed a table outside, then waited. The fish was amazing. Three huge pieces, lightly breaded/battered with potato flakes, and I'm sure other secret ingredients, with home cut fries, coleslaw and an amazing looking tarter sauce. As good as it looked, it tasted even better.

Simply one of the best fish and chips dinner we have all ever had. Our favorite to date has been Barb's, a spot on the wharf in Victoria, where we ate many years ago. It became the standard. Well, this is just as good. Judging from how busy they were, a lot of people know how good it is as well. Before leaving, we ordered another to go, which we will have tomorrow evening for dinner...real easy peasy.

Started to pack up the site when we got home, an early takeoff tomorrow morning. Steve and Janine dropped with their bottle of Bailey's, so we had a little nightcap. Set the alarm real early, we are anxious what the morning will bring as it is calling for rain.
