Been noticing some leakage from the black tank valve, so figured it was time for it to be replaced. Given that both valves have been in service for sixteen years, I decided to replace the entire valve assembly.

2026 NFLD: bringing it home
After driving off the ferry we made a somewhat long drive down to Peggy’s Cove. We planned to spend a couple of weeks visiting Dale’s relatives in the area, on both sides of her family. Booked into King Neptune Campground, which is very close to Peggy’s Cove.
2026 NFLD: a great exploration comes to an end
Started out in the morning for Gander, and in typical St. John’s fashion, the fog was as thick as pea soup. I’m not a fan of driving in fog, but once we got on the highway the visibility was not really too bad.

2026 NFLD: a great place called St. John’s
On our way to St. John’s, we took a couple of secondary highways to the Trans Canada, that passed through some cute harbour towns. TC1 the rest of the way was a good drive.
2026 NFLD: a fantastic whale watching tour
As we wandered around Trinity, we signed up for a whale watching tour for the next morning. We figured why not try to get a bit closer look at these giants of the sea, and the weather forecast seemed agreeable.

2026 NFLD: Bonavista Peninsula
Short drive to our next destination, Lockston Path Provincial Park. Located in the Bonavista Peninsula, it was a good base to explore the whole area.
2026 NFLD: Terra Nova and a real gem
Caught the 10 am ferry back to the mainland. We arrived early at the terminal, and so did many others. Some in the line behind us definitely did not make it on board. Even though it was windy, the water was relatively calm, smooth sailing as they say.
2026 NFLD: as craggy as it gets
Grabbed the early ferry across to Fogo Island, a nice forty five minute crossing. Got chatting in the line up to Jason and Monica, from Ottawa, and we sat with them in the ferry lounge. They were on a short business/vacation trip to NFLD, and are staying in Fogo as well.
2026 NFLD: why it's called The Rock
Bit of a soggy drive up to Twillingate, actually to the Dildo Run Provincial Park. This area is all located on New World Island, which is connected to this particular arm with a causeway. A small park, it is well maintained, with nice well treed sites.
2026 NFLD: a quick stop at Grand Falls
Heading towards Twillingate, we stopped about halfway at Grand Falls for a couple of nights. Sometimes a couple of nights to chill is a good thing, get a little organizing done, then hit the road.

2026 NFLD: just look at this scenery...it’s deadly!
Drove to the Berry Hill Campground in the morning. Although only about 80 klm away, it is kinda slow going as you are constantly going up and over the mountains. The road is actually in good shape, with well placed passing lanes. The views are quite nice, especially when you crest a mountain.
2026 NFLD: into the wild
Headed west off the Trans Can towards Gros Morne. The park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, for its unique and impressive geological features. We first headed to the south part of the park, where the Tablelands are found.
2026 NFLD: The Rock…literally
It is immediately apparent as you drive off the ferry that Newfoundland is a very different sort of place. A mix of boreal forests, rocky barrens, and numerous lakes.

2025 Trip 6: Bonnechere with a side of Wilno Tavern
It’s girls weekend time again, an annual event that has happened for probably the past ten years, so my Sherpa duties continue once again.

2025 Trip 5: Driftwood...back to a favourite
Scored the same site we had last year, and our friends Tanya & Malcolm were able to do the same. These are perhaps the best of all the waterfront sites.
2025 Trip 4: Charleston Lake
Our now annual trip to Charleston Lake with our friends Jackie & Ted, Drew & Nancy, with their Altos. Early spring we plan ahead to grab sites close to each other and the beach. It is always great to be able to just carry the kayaks to the water, or to go for a quick refreshing dip.
2025 Trip 3: The County once again
We always look forward to PEC, as it is such a fun place to visit and explore. We camped over the weekend at a private campground near our friends home, then shifted to Sandbanks for the rest of the week.
2025 Trip 2: Bonnechere
Back to Bonnechere to start our cobbled together summer season. We are camping with Chris & Jen, and their 1743. Snagged a couple of sites along the river, super convenient to get the kayaks out on the water for a paddle.
2025 The Little Loop: To the North
First stop on the way home was Reed Bingham SP. We have been here before and it is a lovely park. Nice full service sites, and well maintained.
