2010 Trip 9 - Outdoorsy Girls Weekend...

Fitzroy Provincial Park - Sept 2010

In early summer I (Dale) and Nancy thought up of arranging our annual girls getaway weekend using our two trailers to go camping.  We picked Fitzroy Harbour because of it's closeness to Ottawa and that it would be an easy reach for both Jim and Drew (Nancy's husband) to drive out with the trailers and set them up for us.  The guys are critical for the pulling & setting up stage...since Drew was out of town on business, Jim could have done both but it ended up with Jim needing to just set up just ours.
Since initially there were going to be 6 of us, we booked 2 electrical sites next to each other.  But the week before our numbers reduced to 4 we made the decision to cancel one site and only take one trailer.  Initially it was going to be Drew & Nancy's trailer since it sleeps more but due to their last minute car battery problem, we took ours instead.  Since I have never been alone (without Jim) using our new trailer, I was excited but also apprehensive if I could remember all the do's and don'ts...

We arrived to a nice secluded site, we helped Jim set up the trailer and then we waited for Debbie and Jackie to arrive.  As her contribution to the food Debbie had volunteered to the bring take-out pizza.  Nancy and I had suggested to Deb to pick up the pizza from a small corner store outside the park that is even known to make good pizzas and delivers into the park.  Well, there was no sign of Debbie and then after dark poor Debbie arrives with a warm pizza in hand from a Carp pizzeria???  Debbie told us of her ordeal that when arriving at the Fitzroy store she was told that they stop making pizzas after Labour Day!  So not wanting to disappoint us all, she took the long drive back to Carp...

Jackie arrived soon after (after she got slightly lost...) and we devoured the tasty pizza and then sat around the fire...until 2:30 in the morning. We all commented that we were not tired but should go and make up our beds...we could have easily talked all night.

We woke up on Sat. to a sunny, warm 23 degree morning, had our mandatory coffees and Nancy made us all her egg, cheese on a bagel breakfasts.  Yummm...very good!  Then we decided to walk a trail that took us out to a point on the Ottawa River.  Thankfully my fear that they would trick me into a much longer hike was not realized...an old Tadoussac girl's weekend story!

After coming back to our site, I suggested that I make up G&T's, my specialty drink while camping.  After drinking our G&Ts we grabbed our folding chairs and headed for the camper's beach to catch the late afternoon sun.  We lined up our chairs in a row on the white sand, sat and chatting while reclining in our chairs looking up at the sun.  We then all in mid-sentences fell asleep, we each woke up to see us drifting in and out of napping.  What a sight we must have been, 4 ladies in a row with faces lifted up to the sky...snoozing on the beach.

Got back to our site and BBQ'd up our dinner of grilled chicken thighs and roasted vegetables with Bone Dust and goats cheese, and Jackie's salad.  For dessert we had Jackie's brownies, and put a candle on top to celebrate Deb's belated birthday that was on Sept. 6th.

Afterwards, we sat around the campfire and chatted some more, another fabulous summer evening around a campfire.  Jackie had to leave at 10:30 to head back home since she had to be up early the next morning to work on her house.

Sat night we spread out more in the trailer,..got up in the morning to an overcast grey day, but not rain as of yet.  We made up our yogurt, blueberries, raspberries and granola (in a bowl) breakfast.  Due to the weather we stayed inside and talked, and talked...

Later in the morning we packed up and waited for Jim to arrive, which he did and we did the final pack up and trailer connection together and then headed in each of our directions home.  I was pleased that I did remember all the important do's and don'ts and had no problems.

just before heading home...
I think that we all found it to be a relaxing, rejuvenating fun weekend with good  friends. It was a treat to not have to fit all our conversations into just a few hours (like we usually do) and have the endless amount of hours to savour our friendships and to talk about just about everything...

Same time, same place next year ladies???!!
