Our now annual trip to Charleston Lake with our friends Jackie & Ted, Drew & Nancy, with their Altos. Early spring we plan ahead to grab sites close to each other and the beach. It is always great to be able to just carry the kayaks to the water, or to go for a quick refreshing dip.
Three nights, three couples, so we each do up one complete dinner meal. A great way to reduce the meal planning and prep, and we all get to enjoy some wonderful food. Once everyone got their site set up, I fired up the Q and got dinner going. Lots of chatting and laughs around the picnic table. It remained very warm and humid all evening, so we decided against having a fire and instead we all went for a refreshing swim just before calling it an evening. Wow...that was the best idea! The water was so fresh, and super nice to wash off the humidity of the day before turning in.
We went out for a good paddle the next afternoon, the weather was perfect and the lake was calm. Charleston is a great lake! Very much a classic Canadian Shield area, a craggy and treed shoreline, with many small rocky islands. We found a spot to stop and have a cold beer, some snacks, and a chance to loosen up the legs from sitting in the kayaks.

Made our way back to the camp beach, a quick swim, then hung out until dinner over at Drew & Nancy’s site. A wonderful dinner, followed by a nice fire.
Another nice paddle the next day, this time following the right hand shoreline around into a big bay. Found a great rocky point to stop and have a swim and just simply enjoy the outdoors. Lots of people out on the lake, pretty much every point had groups of people hanging out and swimming. The park was full and it showed on the water...canoes, kayaks, and SUP boards everywhere, and thankfully,..very few motorboats.

Another quick swim when we got back, then we all had one of Dale’s excellent G&T’s as a pre-dinner drink.
Yet another wonderful dinner, this time at Jackie & Ted’s site. More laughing and scratching, and once we realized we were the only campers still awake, we decided it best to call it a day. Thankfully the heat and humidity had broken, so the last couple of nights the sleeps were much more comfortable.
On our last morning, we all slowly packed up camp and then headed home.
Another fun time camping with good friends, and am pretty sure we’ll be back next year!
